Discover Durham & the Delights of the North East

Experience the history and heritage of the city of Durham the jewel in the crown of an extraordinary and beautiful county. A wonderful place to explore ancient winding streets packed with history, culture and stunning architecture, including the magnificent Norman Castle and Cathedral. Our base will be the 4 star Radisson Blu Hotel Durham which is located in the heart of the city overlooking the River Wear, all bedrooms have full en-suite facilities with high-end toiletries, flat screen T.V. free Wi-Fi, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. River view rooms are available on request at an extra supplement. The hotel does not have any ground floor rooms but does have a lift with access to all floors and porterage is included.

Monday

With everyone safely on board we make our way Northwards, with a comfort and refreshment stop when required. Heading straight to our hotel where porters will transfer your luggage, giving you time to settle in and relax before your evening meal.

Full Day

Enjoy Northumbria's unspoilt beauty and stunning coastline, as we visit the wonderful Lindisfarne also known as Holy Island via the tidal causeway, at the centre of the village you can visit the ruins of the Priory or take a walk to the Lindisfarne Castle. Moving onto the historic town of Alnwick in the heart of Northumberland, where we include a visit to Alnwick Garden, which is one of the world's most contemporary gardens with its Rose Garden, Serpent Garden, Poison Garden and Grand Cascade.

Full Day

To the market town of Barnard Castle which looks down to the tumultuous River Tees, the town has many antique shops and independent retailers with its ever popular Wednesday market, also visiting the historic Bowes Museum & Art Collection, A French style Chateau with ornate gardens, and parkland.

Half Day

To Newcastle upon Tyne, it is linked by no fewer than seven bridges around the bustling quayside a vibrant city to visit. Overlooked by Britain's biggest sculpture the iconic Angel of the North. Returning back to Durham, giving your free time in this bustling city.

Friday

Departing from the hotel after breakfast, we make the short journey to Beamish Open Air Museum, where the past is brought vividly to life, set in beautiful countryside, take a tram ride through a real Edwardian market town with its lovingly rebuilt shops and houses. Leaving mid-afternoon for the journey back to Lincolnshire with a suitable comfort and refreshment stops made as required depending upon traffic.
