Rolling hills bathed in golden sunlight, mist rising gently from still lakes and a crisp air filling your lungs as you explore the Lake District in Autumn. A perfect blend of natural beauty and cosy charm, making it the most beautiful time of year to visit.
With everyone safely on board we start making our way North, towards the Lake District which at this time of the year is always colourful. There will be a comfort and refreshment stop when required, as we head straight to the hotel where porters will transfer your luggage while you are served tea/coffee. Then there's time to freshen up before evening meal.
In the morning, we make our way to Grasmere, the picturesque village associated with the poet William Wordsworth, he declared it is the loveliest spot that man hath ever found. Don't forget to pick up some delicious Grasmere gingerbread in the famous Victorian shop before we make our way to the Victorian Market Town of Kendal, full of historic character interweaving alleyways and cobbled yards. The Medieval Kendal Castle ruins on Castle Hill has great views over the town, there is a mixture of national and independent shops, interesting antique shops and craft shops with it's most famous export being Kendal mint cake.
We head to Haverthwaite where we climb aboard our heritage train on the Lakeside & Haventhwaite Railway for our nostalgic journey. Looking forward to being transported back to the golden age of steam as we travel through the picturesque Levern Valley to peaceful Lakeside, the southern tip of Lake Windermere. From here we explore the stunning beauty of Lake Windermere on a leisurely scenic cruise. Sit back and relax as we enjoy magnificent views of mountain scenery, secluded bays and many wooden islands as we cruise England's largest natural lake. We will disembark in Bowness-on-Windermere, a popular resort and charming enclave on the eastern shores of the lake. We enjoy free time in this bustling town with its lakeside cafes, quaint tea rooms, craft & gift shops.
With a scenic drive through stunning Cumbria to the market town of Ulverston, we stop here which is the birthplace of Stan Laurel. You may wish to visit the Laurel & Hardy Museum, devoted to the famous double act, bursting with personal items, photos, memorabilia and more, located in a 1930s period cinema.
After breakfast we start the homeward journey back to Lincolnshire with suitable comfort and refreshment stops as required.
